I guess you met with information that MS will successively disable basic authentication in exchange online. According to information from MS the process of disabling was started 1 of October and since then they disabling below protocols on random tenants.
- MAPI
- RPC
- Offline Address Book (OAB)
- Exchange Web Services (EWS)
- POP
- IMAP
- Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)
- Remote PowerShell
SNMP AUTH will not be modified.
Currently, there is possibility to restore it but according to information from MS it will be permanently disabled in January 2023.
Below will show you how to step by step temporarily (till end of DEC 2022) repair this what was “broken” by MS 🙂
After login to Admin Center you can see.

To enable basic authentication for the protocol which it was disabled, you need: :
- go to https://admin.microsoft.com/
- on the rigth bottom corner click in button called Help & Support
- in the opened on right side windows, type in search box this: Diag: Enable Basic Auth in EXO
- in the search results you will see option for perform diagnostics. Click there: Run tests.
- after the test will be finished, choose protocol you wnt to enable, then confirm it and click Update.
